Don’t Ignore Water Problems
October 13, 2009
Those little things really do add up. This is even more true when you are talking about water.
Often we overlook those issues of a “little” leak under the sink, or a “little” leak from the dishwasher, or a “little” leak in the attic. The problem is that those “little” leaks add up. Don’t believe me, then take a bucket and place it under your sink for a day, a week, or even a month and you will see exactly how much water those little leaks produce.
Now, consider that all of that water is being absorbed by your sheet rock; just like a sponge. If the leak happens to be on a wall with insulation, then you have the insulation and the sheet rock absorbing all that moisture. This has not only provided a key component of mold, but then you add the food source of the insulation and sheet rock that mold requires.
Full blown mold. That’s what happens when you have moisture and a food source.
So, what do you do? Attack those “little” water leaks immediately.
- Fix those leaks right away
- Keep the humidity level in the home below 50%
- Use a bleach solution to spray on the affected areas to help kill the mold
These recommendations are for easy to treat water leaks and small mold problems. The worst problems are those that you can’t see. Those require the help of an expert. That’s when you should call RX4CleanAir, LLC.
Look at these two news reports of mold at its worst:
- Mold turned Orlando man’s ‘castle’ into ‘house of horrors’ by the Orlando Sentinel
- Mold illness forces woman to live in backyard by ABC 6, WPVI, Philadelphia, PA

Your Basement & Crawlspace Are Part of ONE House
October 12, 2009
Believe it or not, your unfinished basement and your crawlspace are all part of ONE house; your house.
See what this Atlanta resident was told by FEMA by clicking the link. (http://www.cbsatlanta.com/news/21200149/detail.html).
Contrary to others beliefs, you need to treat your crawlspace and basement as part of your house. Why? Because the humidity, the particulates, the VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) will find their way into your home. They will come from cracks in the subfloor, leaks in your ventilation and other ways.
So, what should you do? You should either finish the basement or have a professional properly seal your crawlspace.

Children With Asthma…Be Careful!
October 6, 2009
With the approaching fall and the threat of the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu), children with asthma are more at risk for complications related to their asthma. Left uncontrolled, a hospitalization could be in the future.
Help keep children healthy by following some simple steps:
- Don’t cough or sneeze into hands. Instead, use a tissue or the sleeve of a shirt.
- Wash those hands. Use soap and water, or if that’s not available, then use hand sanitizer that is alcohol based.
- Keep your hands away from the mouth, nose and eyes.
- Those at risk, like asthmatics, should get a flu vaccination as soon as possible. Check your doctors office or even select pharmacies.
There are also risks at home that can affect children. These are environmental triggers. Look out for:
- Dust mites that live in your pillows, bedding and carpets
- Molds
- Animal dander
- Smoke
- Paint fumes
- Beauty products like perfumes & hair sprays
- Outdoor allergens like pollens & ragweed.
